Description

Ivan is ruggedly handsome with rough, unkempt stubble plastered across his tanned face, and with matching short dark hair, his choice of attire makes him appear like a labourer rather than the erudite man that he is. This impression is only accentuated by the protective goggles, the long leather greatcoat, and the workboots than he chooses to wear. Slung beneath his coat is a very large holster for his oversized pistol, and a ring from which he hangs his expensive-looking mechanikal sword. Ever the practical one, he wears an ammunition bandolier across the metal plate armour that adorns and protects his chest.

Background

Ivan Ladislav was born to a noble family in the city of Skirov in the Skirovnya volozkya of Khador. Ivan was adventurous as a child, often getting himself into trouble much to the chagrin of his parents, yet they were happy to indulge him a little whenever they could as his days were mostly spent studying. Despite the war between Cygnar and Khador, Ivan's family arranged for him to study at Corvis University as soon as he was old enough.

Ivan's studious upbringing allowed him to prosper at Corvis University. He took a particular interest in the history of the Iron Kingdoms, in particular the Orgoth Occupation. He also spent a lot of time in the Department of Extraordinary Zoology, often joining expeditions into the wilds of Immoren, even accompanying the famous Professor Viktor Pendrake on one occasion.

After graduating, Ivan decided against returning home to Khador and instead chose to strike out on his own - working as a guide, a scout and a hunter at different times over the next few years, improving his survival skills and earning enough money to fund his own expeditions into the ruined temples and tombs of the Orgoth. Ivan's reputation began to spread far and wide and soon he gained an anonymous benefactor, who offered to fund his expeditions in exchange for any Orgoth artefacts that he discovered. Believing the benefactor to be a member of the Greylords Covenant and wanting to aid his home country, Ivan agreed to the terms offered but only for a set number of years and on the condition that the startup costs of his next venture would also be covered.

Upon reaching the end of the agreement, Ivan came home to Skirov to visit his family before returning to Corvis once more to begin his own mercenary company. On his journey to Cygnar, Ivan met Redrick Degtyarev. Degtyarev spoke of his arcane talents and his intention to relocate to the mercenary haven of Ord but Ivan made him a generous offer to come to Corvis and he quickly accepted, the two became firm friends by the time they reached their destination.

About a week after arriving in Corvis, one of Ivan's contacts arranged a meeting between him and a man with "a particular set of skills" by the name of Bartholemew Hunwick. Finding they had a great deal in common, Ivan and Hunwick quickly found an easy rapport and Ivan decided to designate Hunwick as the lieutenant of the company, ahead of the young and inexperienced Degtyarev.

Needing some muscle, Ivan decided to hire someone with an established reputation, the infamous Grindar Doomspeaker, formerly of the legendary Pescar's Irregulars. Expecting negotiations to be difficult and possibly violent, Ivan was surprised to find that the promise of adventure and drunken revelry was enough to win Grindar over. Recruiting Grindar allowed Ivan to gain possession of the dockside warehouse awarded to the Irregulars by Watch Captain Caylan.

After settling into the warehouse and taking on some contracts as a team, Ivan informed his benefactor of his startup costs and requested some equipment as per their agreement. A few weeks later a shipment was delivered, it contained more gold crowns than originally requested, enough materials for Degytarev to craft some mechanikal weapons for the group and a rusted but fully functional steamjack. Upon inspection it became apparent that it was a Kodiak warjack and not the Kolstot labourjack that Ivan originally requested. All that remains for the company to gain chartered status is a name.....

Attitude

Ivan is a well read man with an easygoing demeanour. His determination to do the right thing can sometimes make him appear naive but he's still pragmatic enough to do what needs to be done and can keep a cool head in a difficult situation. Ivan takes his duties as a leader very seriously, making a point to get to know the people who work with him and feels personally responsible for their wellbeing.

Description

Big, blue and loud are probably the three best words to describe Grindar Doomspeaker. At over seven foot tall and heavily armoured he wields a massive hammer in one hand with consummate ease and if his size and strength don't grab your attention then the sheer power of his voice certainly will.

Background

From a young age Grindar knew life within the Kriel wasn't for him, he wanted to see things and places that most other Trollkin only dream of. His uncle had followed the path of a mercenary and would occasionally return to the village and regale him with tales of heroic deeds and grand battles. Upon hearing these stories Grindar knew the path he must walk, he trained every day with the clan's soldiers and took to fighting with ease, the heat of battle stirred a feeling deep inside him but he would not unleash this power for years to come.

On the eve of his twenty first year Grindar strapped on his battle armor, lofted his hammer and said goodbye to his village. He started upon a the long journey to Corvis seeing many sights along the way, some great and some terrible. Not ten miles from the gates of Corvis, he was set upon by a group of brigands who saw the lone troll as sport. The attackers were so numerous that even the mighty Troll could not fend them off, as the battle raged he felt a terrible power growing from the pit of his stomach surging up through his body and blasting out of his mouth, with a mighty wail he floored every attacker within thirty feet, saving his life. Grindar knew from this moment that he had been blessed with the power of Bragg and the abilities of the Fell Caller and added the mantle of "Doomspeaker" to his name.

In Corvis, Grindar joined Pescar's Irregulars, who were responsible for ending Harlan Tarys's reign of terror, becoming heroes in the process. The Irregulars disbanded after Grigori Pescar fled north, allegedly in fear after being seen without his mask, and Grindar discovered that his fame would be fleeting. Ivan Ladislav was impressed by Grindar's past exploits and invited him to join his group to bolster their numbers. Grindar was eager to resume adventuring so he gladly accepted Ivan's offer.

Attitude

Grindar is in an almost never-ending good mood but not for any reason, it's just the way he is. He loves to have a chuckle when something amuses him, though that may not constitute a mere chuckle for those around him. Grindar is very aggressive in battle but also loyal and protective, he treats the members of his mercenary group like members of his Kriel and as such is willing to put his life on the line protecting them. Grindar still spends a lot of his time in awe of the Iron Kingdoms but the promise of coin means little to him but the chance of adventure means everything. He knows he will one day return to his Kriel and speak of the greatest stories ever told.

Description

Redrick is a fairly slim man, though due to his history of manual labour, he is by no means skinny. He has dark, unkempt hair, and is usually unshaven. He is often seen smoking cheap, home rolled cigarettes. Redrick's armour is mostly made from Khadoran parts, modified to be a little less obviously stolen, it is light (for warcaster armour, at least) and allows him to remain fairly nimble in combat. He carries a few field tools on his belt, perfect for quick, on-the-fly repairs.

Background

Redrick Degtyarev was born to a working class family in the Khadoran capital of Korsk. Redrick's father worked his way up from the bottom to become a supervisor at the Khadoran Mechanik's Assembly. Redrick idolised his father and eventually persuaded him to allow Redrick to accompany him to work. The young Redrick was in awe of his surroundings, endlessly fascinated by the inner workings of steamjacks. Redrick's curiosity almost got him in trouble on one occasion, when he was caught snooping on the Greylords overseeing the creation of mechanikal weapons for the military's warjacks. Redrick avoided punishment due to his father's popularity and Redrick's interest in mechanika was truly ignited.

As soon as he was old enough, Redrick became an apprentice at the KMA. Showing the same level of competency as his father, he was soon entrusted with marshaling the labourjacks. While working late one night Redrick was startled when one of the 'jacks moved on its own, without commands. Dismissing it is a quirk of its old, battered cortex, Redrick soon forgot about it. However, a few weeks later it happened again. He decided to talk to his father about it, safe in the knowledge that he would know how to fix it. When Redrick explained what had occured, Redrick's father wore a look of great sorrow. He explained to his son that Redrick had warcaster talent, and that it was his worst nightmare as he would have to go to the front lines and lead armies; he didn't want that for him.

Redrick decided to hide his talent and seek alternative means to train, spending a few years with a Thamarite cult who encouraged him to expand on his already considerable arcane abilities and acquired a suit of warcaster armour for him. Realising that it was no longer safe for him in Khador, Redrick decided to leave for Ord to become a mercenary for hire; a warcaster would have no trouble finding work. Boarding a train south, Redrick met Ivan Ladislav and decided to join Ivan's fledgling mercenary company.

Attitude

Redrick is a quiet but intense young man who only feels truly at ease when tinkering with steamjacks or working with mechanika. Though initially resentful of his warcaster talent after it forced him to leave his family behind, Ivan persuaded Redrick to embrace all aspects of it and use those abilities to help people and not to wage war in the name of their country.
